World’s largest steam boiler manufacturer welcomes Trap Energy Solutions of Minnesota as the company’s newest sales rep organization, while more customers choose Miura.

ROCKMART, GEORGIA: April 8, 2019: Celebrating their 60th year in the business, Miura, the world’s largest steam boiler manufacturer continues to impress customers while attracting sales organizations who want to be a part of the company’s growing success.

Among these sales organizations is Trap Energy Solutions, of Minnesota, and its CEO Garrett Trapnell, who really did his research before choosing Miura over all the other steam boiler manufacturers.

“Miura looked like the answer to me, but before I could feel 100% comfortable, I wanted to hear what existing Miura customers thought of the boilers, said Trapnell. “ So I contacted as many customers as I could with a simple 3-question survey to understand their perspective. The responses were overwhelmingly positive and some people went into great detail about their boilers and how they benefited their businesses. It was after this survey that I fully committed to becoming a sales rep for Miura boilers.”

After serving in the US Navy on a nuclear-powered submarine, where he was introduced to pressurized equipment and steam operations, Trapnell went on to operate steam plants and eventually became a boiler inspector for nearly 20 years in the insurance industry, where he visited hundreds of boiler rooms and inspected all types and sizes of boilers.

“Because of my long experience in the insurance industry, I knew firsthand that people are in need of high-quality equipment and services that provide value and have favorable returns, stated Trapnell. “Much of the equipment out there is beyond its useful and expected life. In addition, many of the steam systems are not optimized for energy savings; but at the same time, corporations are calling for serious energy savings and carbon reduction plans.”

After deciding that he could make his greatest contribution by going into the steam boiler business, Mr. Trapnell opened Trap Energy Solutions, www.trapenergysolutions.com.

The company’s mission is “to deliver high-quality and sustainable commercial-industrial solutions that protect customers’ assets and help to achieve their steam energy goals, while building solid, long-lasting relationships with our customers.”

As Mr. Trapnell explains it, “I’ve always had a strong desire to start a business and naturally I was looking for an opportunity in the steam world. I have a lot of steam experience, but I also thrive on my ability to serve customers. I thoroughly enjoy problem-solving and helping others to succeed, so I looked into equipment sales. My goal was to find products that offered innovative advantages and substantial value, including saving energy.”

The more research he did, the better Miura boilers looked, providing Trapnell and his team with energy-saving, high-quality, innovative products that often exceeded his expectations.

“Miura’s modular steam system offers tremendous opportunity for existing boiler plants and new facilities to help them meet their energy and sustainability goals,” adds Trapnell. “Customers want high efficiency, clean, and simple systems powering their businesses through the 21st century and the Miura ‘advantage’ can fulfill that.”

Miura boilers have a range of impressive benefits that are attracting a growing number of customers in a number of industries. Among these are: Cold start to full steam in under 5 minutes; overall improved efficiency (fuel savings average about 20% compared to traditional brands, based on customer comments); enhanced reliability through their modular design; advanced controls and advanced monitoring; and a best-in-industry safety record with zero catastrophic vessel failures resulting in casualty.

With more than 140,000 units in operation world-wide, Miura has never had a pressure vessel explosion resulting in casualty. The company’s “safer-by-design” engineering, combined with their unique boiler geometry, means that catastrophic vessel failure is practically impossible and day-to-day safety issues related to installation and operation are minimized.

Miura boilers also have numerous safeguards beyond primary vessel safety to ensure not only safe operations, but also high efficiency and reliable operation.

Plus Miura’s unique design provides a number of key advantages including reducing the amount of costly square footage required, and making installation and standard maintenance that much simpler.

“The Miura boiler system is innovative and fast acting with quick response to changing steam demands, states Trapnell. “Miura boilers are a walk in the park compared to operating conventional boiler systems. Annual service and inspection can be done in 3 hours or less without any disruption in production or weekend work. That is a huge benefit for some customers, especially ones that have not much redundancy built into their systems.”

As Miura grows their US market share, manufacturing innovative watertube boilers at their Rockmart, Georgia headquarter (which opened in 2009), more buyers will come to appreciate the many features and benefits that have made Miura the world-wide steam boiler leader.

“I am extremely fortunate and lucky to be presented with an opportunity to grow with Miura boilers, concludes Trapnell. “Not only do I look forward to a long-lasting and fruitful relationship with Miura boilers, but I am excited to be helping others in the upper Midwest area achieve their energy goals and optimize their process steam systems.”

Miura’s LX Gas/Low NOx Series, Low and High Pressure Steam Boiler (available in boiler models ranging from 50 -300HP) use natural gas or propane and are available in a range of steam pressure options (300 MAWP, 170 MAWP or 15 MAWP). Their compact size allows most models to fit through an industrial 7-foot doorway, while their naturally low NOx (nitrogen oxides) ratings are as low as 9ppm depending on model. This meets or exceeds current and proposed regulations for nitrogen oxide emissions levels. Hot water boilers are also available depending on models.

Miura’s EX Gas/Oil Series High Pressure Steam Boilers (available in boiler models starting from 100HP, and in 50 HP increments up to 300HP) are the most versatile industrial steam boilers in the world. The EX design minimizes carryover and produces 99+% dry saturated steam in less than 5 minutes from a cold start. Faster start-up means less fuel used, greater savings, and more responsible use of precious natural resources.

The LX-Series design consists of vertical water tubes in a rectangular array, while the EX-Series utilizes vertical tubes in a circular array. Both headers of each series are encased in a castable refractory with only the tubes exposed to flame and/or combustion gases. The upper header is attached to the lower header only by the tubes. As the tubes expand and contract, the headers float up and down accordingly.

The ‘floating header’ concept allows for even thermal expansion of the tubes, therefore reducing stress points within the boiler.” The ‘leaky tube’ problems associated with firetube and bent watertube designs have been eliminated.

Miura launched its Quick Ship Xpress (QSX) program in 2018 to ensure reps and customers could receive their boilers in just days. In 2019, the program is changing the way some steam boiler users make buying decisions, as QSX impacts the often-expensive rental market, reduces the need to continually tinker with “end-of-life” boilers, and assists in disaster recovery efforts.

“Quick Ship Xpress is an amazing advantage for our customers who might otherwise be spending tens of thousands of dollars on a rental boiler,” said Paul O’Donnell, Miura's VP of strategic development. “The program is also a major life-saver for customers who may have waited too long to order a new boiler, and instead finds themselves constantly patching up an old, inefficient model, while trying to avoid downtime costs. With QSX, Miura customers can have a new 'cold start to full steam in five minutes' boiler from 50 - 600HP (multiple 300HP units) in the time it usually takes to install a rental unit."

David Flowers, sales and engineering manager at Combustion & Control Solutions (CCS), located in Chattanooga, Tennessee, agrees that Miura’s QSX has impressive benefits.

“We first used Miura’s QSX Program with a customer who was unable to meet production requirements,” said Flowers. "The boilers helped the customer out of a significant bind, while negating costly rental boilers. Miura was able to ship the boilers within 48 hours, and CCS was able to install them and have them running in a few days."

This “fastest-in-industry” shipment and installation of a new boiler was faster than delivering and installing a used rental boiler, which would have to be uninstalled at the time a new boiler was delivered, thus driving up costs.

“Typically, significant piping has to be installed or re-routed to accommodate a rental boiler,” said Flowers. “A lot of people often forget to take into consideration that the installation and then removal of a rental boiler is very expensive, particularly when overtime costs are involved.”

On average, delivery and installation costs for a rental boiler 50HP or larger can total $75,000 to $90,000.

“Our customer paid less than twice this amount for the new Miura boiler,” said Flowers. “They were delivered and installed as quickly or quicker, with much less hassle, than a rental boiler would have been. And at the end of the day, the customer has a brand new boiler that was easy to fit into the space, connect to existing piping and utilities with little modification, and get them back up and running in a very short time frame.”

During another time, Miura received a request from a company that had waited too long to change out its old, inefficient boiler and needed a new one fast.

“We received a call from a popular soft drink manufacturer in Southern Florida," said Jason Bell, Miura’s regional manager for the Southeast division. “They were having major issues with a boiler they had purchased from another company. Since we had already replaced another boiler from that company with a new Miura, we weren’t surprised that they would be calling us. The customer contacted us trying to find out if there was any way to get a new boiler delivered and installed in much less time than the industry-standard of a few months. They were really in a bind, since their current boiler was scaling up badly, and causing them all sorts of issues.”

“Before Miura’s QSX Program, some companies did everything they could to keep old warhorse boilers online, and this company was no different," said O’Donnell. “The problem was that they were getting all sorts of alarms, and while they kept running the boiler to meet production demands, the fuel costs were becoming unmanageable because the boiler had become totally inefficient. Having waited too long to change out the boiler, and hoping there was some way Miura could help, they called Jason before having to bite the bullet on a costly rental unit.”

“It took a moment for the plant manager to realize that we could meet his expectations and have a new Miura boiler shipped and installed in the time it normally takes for a rental,” said Bell. “I still remember his big smile.”

Disaster Recovery is another way QSX is making a difference. Weather-related conditions such as hurricanes and floods can render boilers useless. These difficult situations can be even more troubling when steam boilers are damaged or ineffective, and companies, schools, and healthcare facilities have to scramble for replacements. This also represents a burden on insurers who must pay costly claims, as well as the insured whose rates can be affected. The QSX program and Miura’s compact, lighter-weight design provides users with an option to quickly install the boilers in elevated areas away from rising flood waters.

“Providing essential energy for processing, heating and other applications fast, after first responders have done their work and it is safe to enter areas that have suffered disasters gives us a great sense of pride,” said O’Donnell. “Our Made in the USA (in their Rockmart, Georgia US headquarters) boilers can play a critical role after a weather-related disaster strikes.”

World's largest and most innovative steam boiler manufacturer to feature their on-demand technology and new Quick Ship Xpress Program at North Hall — Booth 2956.

Rockmart, Georgia, January 2nd, 2018 — As a world leader in innovative steam boiler technology, Miura boilers (www.miuraboiler.com), with manufacturing facilities headquartered in Rockmart, Georgia, is fast becoming the go-to company throughout the US and Canada for a range of customers including hospitals, food and beverage processors, textile/carpet manufacturers, colleges and universities, brewers and distillers, and more.

A proven leader in innovative technology, with advances that include cold water to full steam in less than 5 minutes (On-Demand Steam), Miura will be showcasing its unique LX and EX Series boilers, as well as the company’s new Quick Ship Xpress (QSX) program, at the 2018 AHR Expo, in the North Hall-Booth 2956.

Miura’s QSX ends the need for expensive rentals, and continued reliance on repair-prone, inefficient boilers, by shipping a new, ready-for-installation boiler in about 48 hours.

“Miura is committed to providing the best new products and services in the fields of steam energy, water treatment, and environmental solutions,” stated Ozzy Ochi, Miura’s CEO and President. “Today, as a proven leader in these fields, our goal is to work hard to meet and exceed new and current customer requirements, and to be recognized as their trusted partner.”

Among the many achievements that have distinguished Miura over the years is their incredible safety record, a “best-in-industry” standard that will also be highlighted at the AHR Expo.

With more than 140,000 units in operation worldwide, Miura has never had a pressure vessel explosion resulting in casualty. The company’s “safer-by-design” low water content, combined with their unique boiler geometry, means that catastrophic vessel failure is practically impossible. Miura boilers also have numerous safeguards beyond primary vessel safety to ensure not only safe operations, but also high efficiency and reliable operation.

For Miura, reliability, efficiency, and safety have defined the company’s brand and its full line of product from steam boilers, to computer control and monitoring systems, to water treatment systems, and more.

Customers can’t help but be impressed by these compact, modular boilers that are saving them substantial amounts of money, reducing downtime, conserving energy, and more.

As one Director of Facilities, who uses four Miura boilers in a Multiple Installation (MI) configuration, states, “The four boilers provided us with an economical way to maximize our usage of the boilers. And being quick steamers also allowed us to completely shut off boilers that were not needed but could be ready and on-line in minutes. We have had good success with these units and have reduced our fuel usage by 20% while adding additional load at the same time.”

This sentiment is echoed by other customers, who switched to Miura, saved money, and enjoyed the outstanding efficiency of On-Demand Steam.

“The company no longer needs to bring in staff hours earlier to make sure that steam levels are sufficient for processing when the production crew arrives,” added a long time consultant in the food and beverage processing industry, who has recommended Miura to several clients in the last five years.

Miura’s modular approach also makes it easy to achieve an N+1 system, and the overall design makes required inspections a lot less cumbersome and costly, since units can be broken down and assembled in days, versus weeks required for the traditional brands.

Maintenance-ease is something that also stands out for Miura with many customers suggesting few, if any issues, and commenting how quickly Miura responds when called.

As the maintenance manager of a large carpet manufacturing facility states, “Over the past eight years, I can tell you that in all of the companies that we have, in all the buildings that we have, and in our different plants, we have had no downtime because of Miura boilers. Bottom line, we're here to make great carpet and if you can get efficiency like that out of your support equipment, I think you're doing really good.”

Miura’s LX Gas/Low NOx Series, Low and High Pressure Steam Boiler (available in boilers from 50 -300HP) use natural gas or propane and are available in a range of steam options (300 MAWP, 170 MAWP or 15 MAWP). Their compact size allows most models to fit through an industrial 7-foot doorway doorway, while their naturally low NOx (nitrogen oxides) ratings are as low as 9ppm depending on model. This meets or exceeds current and proposed regulations for nitrogen oxide emissions levels. Hot water boilers are also available depending on models.

Miura’s EX Gas/Oil Series High Pressure Steam Boilers (available in 100HP, and in 50 HP increments up to 300HP models) are the most versatile industrial steam boilers in the world.

MIURA’S NEW QUICK-SHIP XPRESS BOILER PROGRAM ENDS THE NEED FOR HIGH COST RENTALS AND FAILING, INEFFICIENT BOILERS

Well-Known Soft Drink Bottling Facility in Florida Saves Tens of Thousands of Dollars,
While Eliminating Inefficiency and Downtime, and Getting A New Boiler Fast!

Hollywood, Florida, September 12, 2017 – When the call for help came into Jason Bell, Miura America’s Regional Manager for the Southeast Division, he knew that he was about to make his customer very happy.

“We received a call from a popular soft drink manufacturer in Southern Florida.” recalls Bell. “They were having major issues with a boiler they had purchased from another company. Since we had already replaced another boiler from that company with a new one from Miura, we weren’t surprised that they would be calling us.”

But this request was different. The company had waited too long to change out their old, inefficient, problematic boiler, and needed a new one fast. Typically, that might mean looking into a rental boiler, which could usually be delivered and installed in a week or two, but the company was hoping to avoid that and reached out to Miura to see what could be done. “The customer was trying to find out if there was any way to get a new boiler delivered and installed in much less time than the industry-standard of a few months,” said Bell. “They were really in a bind, since their current boiler was scaling up badly, and causing them all sorts of issues.”

Scaling up is a term that describes what happens when hardness in the water basically turns to hard calcium or scale, and then slowly destroys the inside of a boiler, minimizing the efficiency and increasing service calls along the way. “They were getting all sorts of alarms, and while they could keep running the boiler to meet production demands, the fuel costs were becoming unmanageable because the boiler had become totally inefficient,” stated Bell. “They needed a new boiler fast and they figured they would just give us a call before biting the bullet on a costly rental unit.” What the customer didn’t know was that Miura, the world’s largest industrial boiler manufacturer, had recently launched the first-of-its-kind Quick-Ship Xpress (QSX) boiler program, and could deliver and have installed a new unit in a week or two.

“Miura’s Quick-Ship Xpress program is a game changer,” states Paul O’Donnell, Miura’s VP of Support Operations. “Now customers can have a new ‘zero to full steam in 5 minutes’ Miura boiler, from 50 -600HP, in the time it usually takes to install a rental unit.”

Typically, boiler rentals had been the solution to minimize downtime, when the current boiler had been pushed to the limits or required extended repair. But rentals boilers are often used boilers, usually less than 50HP, housed in large trailers and driven to the renter’s facility where they require full installation as well as uninstallation. This is often costly and time-consuming.

“Rental boilers still have to be wired and piped to a very similar piece of equipment that is already installed in your building,” adds Bell. “Of course, there was always a downside, since you're basically installing a temporary piece of equipment with the same funding that you could be installing a permanent piece of equipment.”

An article in HPAC Engineering explains it this way: “The cost of a rental boiler could add tens of thousands of dollars per month to overall project costs and many more thousands of dollars in connection costs.” Miura’s unique Quick-Ship Xpress program changes all that, while making one soft drink company in Florida, and other customers very happy.

“It took a moment for the plant manager to realize that we could meet his expectations and have a new Miura boiler shipped and installed in the time it normally takes for a rental,” added Bell. “When he asked if there was any chance we could make this happen and I told him about our new Quick-Ship program, his big smile said it all.”

In addition to eliminating much of the need for rental unit costs, Miura’s QSX program also makes it easier for buyers to “move on” from old inefficient boilers that burn too much fuel and need constant service. “Some users just can’t let go of their aging, inefficient boiler, because they’d rather have some steam than lose productivity due to downtime,” said Bell. “It used to be a tough choice, but now instead of reaching for the duct tape, you can call Miura and get the most reliable, efficient and safe boiler in the time it would take to order and install a rental.”

And there was another benefit, since the soft drink company was so happy to hear that they could free themselves of their aging boiler without any real downtime, they decided to move ahead with another plan to step-up production. “They took this opportunity to couple two ideas into one,” recalls Bell. “They replaced the scaled boiler (a 100HP) in rapid fashion as well as increased their production capability. We were able to deliver and install our LX-200 boiler to them within two weeks.”

LX-200 SG LX Gas/Low NOx Series, Low and High Pressure Steam Boiler use natural gas or propane and are available in a range of steam options (300 MAWP, 170 MAWP or 15 MAWP). Their compact size allows them to fit through a standard doorway, while their naturally low NOx (nitrogen oxides) ratings are as low as 9ppm depending on model. Hot water boilers are available depending on models.

The Miura LX Series design (available in boilers from 50 -300HP) consists of rows of vertical tubes sandwiched between two rectangular headers. Both headers are encased in a castable refractory with only the tubes exposed to flame and/or combustion gases. The upper header is attached to the lower header only by the tubes. As the tubes expand and contract, the headers float up and down accordingly.

This ’floating header’ concept greatly reduces stress and allows for the use of cold feedwater without the fear of significant thermal shock. The ’leaky tube’ problems associated with firetube and bent watertube designs have been eliminated.

Miura boilers have a range of impressive benefits that are attracting a growing number of customers in a range of industries. Among these are: improved efficiency (fuel savings average about 20% based on customer comments); enhanced reliability through their modular design; advanced controls and advanced monitoring; and a best-in-industry safety record with zero catastrophic vessel failures resulting in casualty.

Plus Miura’s unique design and smaller size provides a number of key advantages including reducing the amount of costly square footage required, and making installation and standard maintenance that much simpler.

“As one soft drink manufacturer learned, doing business with Miura offers many advantages,” adds O’Donnell. “Plus, Miura manufactures virtually every component needed for an on-demand steam solution. That includes a Colormetry Hardness Detection System that can be used with any boiler to extend its life.”

Typically, water-hardness levels are checked manually through the use of chemical reagents. Such measurements are time consuming and can result in incorrect readings.

Colormetry solves all these problems by offering automated reagent injection, mixing and evaluation integrated into the boiler control system. Compactly-designed, self-calibrating units automatically monitor water quality, control Miura’s water softeners’ regeneration if hardness is detected and provide alarm and fault history logging. Reagent replacement is easy, while the units connect to Miura’s remote monitoring system (MOM) for added security and protection and interfaces with the boiler’s micro-controllers.
